Project “Research on road safety performance indicators for the year 2016” has been completed. Monitoring of all previously researched indicators has been continued, and monitoring of new indicators related to pedestrian behavior in traffic.
In 2016 values of the following indicators were determined:
· Seat belt use
· Child car seat use
· Protection helmets use
· Use of mobile phones while driving
· Speeding
· Driving under the influence of alcohol
· Pedestrian behavior in traffic
In 2016, the percent of seat belt use at front seats in cars is 75.1%, and at rear seat is 10.1%. The percent of safety belt use at rear seats in cars is, although increased, at a low level, if compared to the developed countries in the world.
The percent of use of child protection systems for children aged 0 to 3 is 40.2%, and for children aged 4 to 12 17.2%.
The percent of protection helmet use by riders of motorized two-wheelers (motorcycles and mopeds) is 85.7%.
The percent of drivers operating vehicles under the influence of alcohol in Serbia is 0.71%.
The research has determined that every fifth pedestrian crosses the crosswalk with the red light on in urban areas (22.2%), as well as that the third of elementary school children crosses the street outside the marked crosswalk in school zones (31.4%).
